Nine Killed in Ijebu-Ode–Ore Expressway Crash in Ogun

Nine Killed in Ijebu-Ode–Ore Crash as FRSC Flags Speeding

Nine people have been killed in a road crash involving a commercial bus and a truck along the Ijebu-Ode–Ore axis of the Ijebu-Ode–Benin Expressway in Ogun State, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The crash occurred at about 4:55 p.m. on Monday around the Bethel area within the Ijebu-Ode corridor.

The Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC said all nine people involved in the crash — three men and six women — died.

Bus and truck involved

According to the FRSC, the crash involved a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus operated by Delta Line and a white Sino truck belonging to Bill Gas Solution Ltd.

The road-safety agency said the crash happened while it was raining and the road surface was wet.

Its preliminary investigation identified speed violation as the probable cause.

That assessment remains preliminary and does not amount to a completed determination of cause.

Victims taken to Ijebu-Ode morgue

FRSC said the remains of the victims were evacuated to the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode.

The vehicles involved were also removed from the scene and taken to Ilese Police Station by the police motor traffic division.

Ogun State Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to reduce speed during rainfall, maintain safe following distances and avoid driving practices that increase risk on wet roads.

The public-safety question goes beyond one crash

The immediate facts are clear: nine people were involved in the collision, and FRSC says all nine died.

What remains to be established is whether the preliminary finding on speeding is confirmed by any completed investigation and whether other factors contributed to the crash.

Those questions matter beyond the scene of the collision because commuters depend daily on commercial transport along major inter-state corridors.

The next public-safety test is whether authorities move beyond warnings after fatal crashes to sustained enforcement of speed limits, commercial-vehicle safety standards and safer driving practices.

For now, the strongest official finding remains that nine people died in the crash, while speed violation has been identified only as the probable cause at the preliminary stage.
