Two confirmed dead, another man shot as police intensify operations in Osogbo

The Osun State Police Command has intensified security operations across parts of Osogbo after suspected cult-related violence left two people confirmed dead and another man shot in separate incidents.

Police said the first incident occurred on October 2 around Owo-Eba in the state capital, where Adebayo Taoreed, also known as “Small Rugged,” and Oluwaseyi Daniel, also known as “OSHA,” were shot dead.

Four other people sustained gunshot injuries and were taken for treatment, according to the police.

The command described the incident as a suspected cult clash.

Another man shot on October 4

Two days later, police reported a separate shooting in the Arowomole area of Osogbo.

The command identified the victim as Rasak Wahab, also known as “Ojo Iku,” and said suspected cultists shot him during the incident.

Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said Wahab was taken to hospital and was responding to treatment at the time of the command’s statement.

Separate media reports later claimed that a man with a similar name and alias died after a Sunday shooting in another part of Osogbo.

Those reports differ from the police account on the victim’s name, location and medical outcome.

IDNN has not found a fresh authoritative police statement reconciling those differences or confirming a third death.

The verified police-confirmed toll therefore remains two deaths from the October 2 incident.

Conflicting reports remain unresolved

The unresolved reporting conflict concerns whether Rasak Wahab, Taoheed Wahab and Taoheed Ojoiku refer to the same person, different people or a reporting error.

Until an authoritative source resolves that conflict, IDNN will not merge those identities or add a third death to the confirmed toll.

Any later police confirmation of a death would require an immediate update.

Police order intensified operations

Following the violence, Osun Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura ordered tactical teams to intensify operations in identified parts of Osogbo.

Police said the teams were directed to conduct intelligence-led operations against suspected criminal hideouts and people linked to cult-related violence.

Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders were also instructed to increase patrols and intelligence gathering across the state capital.

The command said the operations should be carried out professionally and within the law.

Police also said investigations into the shootings were continuing.

Public safety and due process

The recent violence has heightened concern among residents in affected parts of Osogbo.

The immediate public-safety test is whether the intensified police deployment prevents further attacks.

The accountability test is whether investigators identify those responsible and produce evidence capable of supporting prosecution.

Suspected cult membership should not be treated as established guilt, and no individual should be described as responsible for the killings or shootings without verified evidence or a lawful finding.

For now, what is confirmed by police is that two people were killed in the October 2 Owo-Eba incident, four others were injured, and another man was shot in a separate October 4 incident before police intensified operations across parts of Osogbo.

What remains unresolved is whether the October 4 victim later died, whether conflicting media reports refer to the same person, and who carried out the attacks.
