WAFCON 2024: CAF Deploys Female-Led Technical Team to Elevate Women’s Football

Casablanca, Morocco | July 6, 2025 – IDNN Women’s Football Desk

CAF has announced a powerful, all-female technical study group for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), featuring a mix of elite African coaches and analysts tasked with shaping the future of the women’s game across the continent.

Led under the CAF Technical Directorate headed by Raul Chipenda, the team includes:

  • Clementine Touré (Ivory Coast)

  • Shilene Booysen (South Africa)

  • Lamia Boumehdi (Morocco)

  • Radia Fertoul (Algeria)

Their mandate: produce a full technical tournament report, break down formations and player performances, and select the official Team of the Tournament.

“This team reflects our deep commitment to growing African women’s football with the right expertise and representation,” said CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

Beyond Analysis: Coaching DNA & Scouting

In addition to match reports, the panel will draft post-tournament coaching templates, advise on national team development across all 6 CAF zones, and create tactical infographics for federations and clubs.

CAF also confirmed that live data will be collected using AI-supported match tracking, in partnership with FIFA Forward-backed initiatives.

“We’re building knowledge, not just competition,” Chipenda added.

IDNN VERDICT:
CAF’s new female-led braintrust at WAFCON isn’t symbolic—it’s strategic. With expert coaches decoding every minute, the future of African women’s football is officially under the microscope.
