The Nigerian military says troops killed 16 suspected terrorists and lost three soldiers during a series of operations and defensive clashes in Adamawa State between September 30 and October 1.
Operation HADIN KAI said the engagements took place across its Sector 4 area of operations and included fighting in the Boima area of Gombi Local Government Area as well as separate attacks on military positions in Garkida and Garaha.
The figures are based on the military’s account and have not been independently verified by IDNN.
Military reports 16 deaths in Boima operation
In a statement issued by Acting Military Information Officer Captain Mohammed Goni, the Joint Task Force said troops carried out an operation in the Boima area and killed 16 suspected terrorists.
The military said troops recovered three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action rifles, one Dane gun, six AK-47 magazines and ammunition.
The military also said its air component struck a suspected militant position during the operations.
IDNN is withholding surveillance methods, precise strike timing, troop positioning and other tactical details that could compromise ongoing security activity.
Three soldiers killed, military says
The military also said three soldiers were killed during the wider engagements.
Wounded personnel were evacuated for treatment and were reported by the military to be in stable condition.
Separately, insurgents were said to have launched attacks on military positions at Garkida and Garaha.
The military said those attacks were repelled and the assailants withdrew.
Those claims remain based on Operation HADIN KAI’s account.
Follow-up operations continue
Operation HADIN KAI says follow-up operations are continuing across the affected area.
For communities in Adamawa, the immediate public-interest question is what the operations mean for civilian safety and whether the fighting has created new displacement, access or security concerns.
The military statement reviewed by IDNN does not provide an independently verified civilian casualty figure.
It also does not independently establish the identities of those reported killed beyond the military’s classification of them as suspected terrorists.
That distinction matters.
The strongest verified position at this stage is that the military has reported significant fighting in Adamawa, says 16 suspected terrorists and three soldiers were killed, and says follow-up operations remain active.
The next evidence must come from casualty reconciliation, community-level reporting and confirmation of whether affected areas have stabilised.
