Motorcycle Passenger Dies After Tipper Hits Bike on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway
A motorcycle passenger has died after a sand-laden tipper truck collided with a motorcycle at Ilasa Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said its Eagle Response Team was deployed after receiving a distress call at about 3:18 p.m.
According to LASEMA, the crash involved a sand-laden tipper with registration number 19F 992FG and a motorcycle.
The agency’s preliminary account said the tipper driver lost control before the truck struck the motorcycle from behind.
An adult male passenger on the motorcycle died in the collision.
Emergency responders clear scene
LASEMA responders and paramedics worked at the scene with officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
The deceased was recovered and handed over to family members at the scene.
The damaged tipper and motorcycle were removed from the carriageway and taken to Ilasamaja Police Station for further investigation.
Traffic flow was restored after the emergency operation.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to obey traffic regulations and exercise caution on Lagos roads.
Police investigate crash
Police are expected to establish the circumstances of the collision, including what caused the driver to lose control and whether any mechanical, traffic or other safety factor contributed to the crash.
Authorities had not disclosed the identity of the deceased, the identity or legal status of the tipper driver, or the outcome of the investigation at the time of this report.
