The continent is represented not only through established stars at the centre of the senior conversation, but also through younger players still building their reputations and goalkeepers recognised in a specialist category.

African football enters the London ceremony with visibility across different positions, generations and award categories — giving supporters several points of interest rather than one name carrying the entire continental conversation.
London puts that recognition on a historic stage
The ceremony itself carries additional weight.
The Ballon d’Or celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2026 and will be staged in London for the first time, seven decades after England’s Stanley Matthews won the inaugural award.
That gives this year’s African contingent a place inside a milestone edition of the event.
There is still more than a month before the winners are announced, and the shortlist does not settle the argument over who will eventually leave London with the major prizes.
What it does establish is Africa’s presence.
Hakimi and Mané carry the senior spotlight. Younger African players and established goalkeepers extend it into other categories.
By the time the ceremony begins on 26 October, the continent will not be watching from the margins of the awards conversation.
