Arsenal beat Man City 3-0 to win 2026 Community Shield

Arsenal crush Manchester City 3-0 to win Community Shield and fire first warning of title defence

Arsenal opened the new domestic season with a statement, beating Manchester City 3-0 in Cardiff to win the Community Shield as Riccardo Calafiori, Kai Havertz and Martin Ødegaard punished Enzo Maresca’s side.

It took Arsenal just 24 seconds to seize control.

Calafiori struck almost immediately, giving the Premier League champions an advantage before Manchester City had settled into Maresca’s first competitive match in charge.

The pressure did not stop there.

Havertz doubled Arsenal’s lead in the 28th minute, leaving City two goals down before the half-hour mark.

City found more possession as the contest developed and attempted to force their way back into it.

But Arsenal were doing the greater damage.

City finished with more of the ball and more shots, yet Arsenal produced the stronger attacking return and carried a two-goal lead into the interval.

That difference defined the afternoon.

City had more possession. Arsenal had control of the score.

Ødegaard shuts the door

Any serious hope of a City comeback disappeared shortly after the restart.

Ødegaard scored Arsenal’s third, leaving the FA Cup winners with a three-goal deficit and giving Arteta’s side full control of the Community Shield.

Arsenal’s captain was subsequently named player of the match.

At 3-0, the champions no longer needed to chase.

They protected the advantage, denied City a route back and completed the afternoon with a clean sheet.

The scoreline reflected an efficiency gap City never managed to close.

Arsenal turn recent pain into silverware

The result carried added weight because of what had come before.

Arsenal entered Cardiff as Premier League champions, but Manchester City had hurt them directly last season, including victories in the League Cup final and their most recent league meeting.

This time, Arsenal changed the head-to-head temperature emphatically.

They scored inside half a minute.

They had two before the half-hour.

They added a third after the interval.

And they gave City nothing on the scoreboard.

The victory delivered Arsenal their 18th Community Shield and the first domestic silverware of the new campaign.

Arteta said afterwards that he was extremely happy with the performance and result, with Arsenal determined to show how strongly they wanted the first trophy available.

The scoreline made that ambition visible.

Maresca era opens with a warning

For Manchester City, Enzo Maresca’s first competitive assignment could hardly have carried a harsher result.

His side had periods of possession and attacking pressure but failed to convert them into goals.

City defender Ruben Dias acknowledged after the match that the performance was not good enough, while stressing that the squad remains in transition under a new manager.

One game cannot settle the direction of a new managerial era.

But it can establish the starting point.

For Maresca, that starting point is now a 3-0 defeat to the reigning champions.

First trophy, first leverage

The Community Shield will not decide the Premier League title.

But Arsenal leave Cardiff with something tangible before the league campaign properly begins.

A trophy.

A clean sheet.

Three goals against Manchester City.

And a result strong enough to make the rest of the competition look twice.

The champions arrived needing to show that last season’s title was not the end of their rise.

Their first competitive answer was emphatic.

Scorers:
Riccardo Calafiori — Arsenal
Kai Havertz — Arsenal
Martin Ødegaard — Arsenal

Player of the Match: Martin Ødegaard

Outcome: Arsenal win the 2026 Community Shield

QUON: City had more possession. Arsenal had the goals, the clean sheet and the trophy. The first major argument of 2026/27 belonged entirely to the champions.
