Sokoto police confirm two killed in Kebbe attack as livestock is taken
Sokoto State Police said two people were killed after armed attackers raided Dukura community in Kebbe Local Government Area on Monday morning.
Police spokesperson DSP Ahmed Rufai said officers moved to the area after receiving information about the attack and engaged the assailants, forcing them to retreat.
He said the two victims had already been killed before officers arrived.
Reports from the community also said the attackers blocked the road linking Dukura and neighbouring areas to Tambuwal market and took livestock and motorcycles belonging to residents.
Police confirmed that some animals were taken but did not provide a verified breakdown of the stolen property.
Attack disrupts communities around Kebbe
Community accounts said cows, camels and sheep were taken alongside motorcycles used by some residents for commercial transport.
The attack also heightened fear across Dukura, Dalijan and surrounding communities in Girkau Ward.
The immediate consequence goes beyond the two deaths.
For many rural households, livestock and motorcycles are working assets — sources of income, transport and daily survival. Their loss can deepen the economic damage after an attack ends.
Earlier attack adds to security pressure
The Dukura attack comes less than three weeks after another violent incident in Kebbe LGA.
On September 4, police separately confirmed that five people were killed and three others injured in an attack on Girkau and neighbouring communities.
That earlier incident is separate from the latest attack and does not form part of the current casualty count.
The proximity of both incidents raises a wider public-safety question for communities around the Kebbe-Tambuwal axis: whether security deployments are strong enough to prevent repeat attacks rather than respond after lives and property have already been lost.
What authorities must now answer
Police say security is being strengthened in the affected area.
The next accountability questions are whether personnel will remain in vulnerable communities, whether the Tambuwal market route can be secured, whether stolen property can be recovered and whether those responsible can be identified and arrested.
For now, the confirmed police figure from the Dukura attack remains two deaths.
The next development to watch is whether authorities announce arrests, recoveries, further casualty information or longer-term security measures for affected communities.
