Two separate fires have affected five shops in Ikorodu and Surulere, destroying goods and property but leaving no reported deaths or injuries, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.
The incidents occurred on Monday in different parts of Lagos and are not believed to be connected.
In Ikorodu, emergency responders were called to Adamo Bus Stop after a fire broke out in a hairdressing shop and spread to adjoining businesses.
LASEMA said preliminary findings indicated that a spark from electrical wiring ignited the roof of the hairdressing shop before the fire spread.
Three shops were affected.
Responders from LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service brought the blaze under control and carried out dampening-down operations to prevent a renewed outbreak.
No death or injury was recorded.
Two shops completely razed in Surulere
A second fire was reported at 19 Olatunde Onimole Street, near Bakery Bus Stop in Surulere.
LASEMA said two shops used for furniture and provisions were completely razed and their contents destroyed.
The response involved LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA paramedics, the Nigeria Police and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
The cause of the Surulere fire had not been established when checked.
Again, no casualty or injury was reported.
Financial losses remain unverified
LASEMA described goods and property destroyed in the Ikorodu incident as being worth millions of naira.
That description remains an agency estimate. IDNN has not reviewed an independent inventory, insurance assessment or valuation establishing the precise financial loss.
The strongest established position is therefore that five shops were affected across the two incidents and substantial goods and property were destroyed, while the final monetary loss remains unverified.
Electrical safety under scrutiny
The preliminary finding in Ikorodu points to an electrical spark, according to LASEMA.
That is not yet a final technical finding and should not be extended to the Surulere incident, whose cause remains unresolved.
For affected traders, the immediate consequence is damaged stock, disrupted business and possible loss of income even though no lives were lost.
LASEMA has urged residents to observe electrical-safety precautions and report emergencies through Lagos emergency lines 767 and 112.
The next material updates are any final fire-service findings on the causes of both incidents, verified estimates of losses and whether the affected businesses can safely reopen.
