Osun police have recovered another corpse from Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife as investigators widen their probe into violence that had already left transport-sector figure and Accord Party chieftain Olalekan Oyeyemi dead.
Police recovered the second body on Monday after security personnel moved into the motor park following Sunday’s violence.
The identity of the deceased person and the circumstances surrounding the death had not been publicly established when checked.
Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said the body was taken to a morgue and that the investigation had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The recovery came a day after Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ajagungbade Emir, was shot dead during violence around the Mayfair area in Ile-Ife.
Reports and the state government have linked the disturbance to an alleged dispute involving motor-park leadership, but police have not publicly established the motive for either death or identified those responsible.
Adeleke orders warring groups out of motor parks
Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered groups involved in the dispute to vacate motor parks across the state while security agencies work to restore order.
The governor also announced that his administration would reintroduce a Park Management System and said an Executive Order would provide a framework for the arrangement.
In his response to Oyeyemi’s killing, Adeleke directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest those responsible and called for an investigation into the violence.
The governor described the confrontation as arising from an alleged leadership dispute around the parks.
That remains the state government’s account. Police have not publicly established the motive or criminal responsibility.
Police investigation widens
The recovery of another body has expanded the investigation beyond the initial shooting.
Police said Mayfair Motor Park remained closed while investigators worked to establish what happened and identify those involved.
No public police finding reviewed by IDNN has established who killed either deceased person or whether the two deaths resulted from the same act of violence.
That distinction is important.
Political affiliation, union membership or involvement in a dispute over motor-park leadership may provide context, but none establishes criminal responsibility without evidence.
A public-safety problem beyond the factions
The violence has consequences beyond the interests of competing transport groups.
Motor parks serve commuters, traders, drivers and other residents. Gunfire or violent confrontation around them can disrupt transport, expose bystanders to danger and undermine public confidence in spaces that function as essential urban infrastructure.
Authorities must therefore establish not only who committed any offences but also how a dispute around public transport facilities escalated into deadly violence.
What authorities must answer
Police must determine the identities and causes of death, reconstruct the sequence of events and establish who fired the fatal shots.
Investigators must also determine whether warning signs preceded the violence, whether weapons were brought into the park and what security presence existed before the confrontation.
For the state government, another question follows from its response: how will the proposed Park Management System be structured, who will administer it and what safeguards will prevent renewed rivalry or violence?
Those questions cannot be answered by political affiliation, union claims or competing narratives.
They require evidence.
Until investigators provide further findings, the established position remains that Oyeyemi was shot dead, another corpse was subsequently recovered from Mayfair Motor Park, police transferred the investigation to the State Criminal Investigation Department, and the state government ordered warring groups out of motor parks while announcing plans for a new management system.
The next material developments are any arrests or charges, identification of the second deceased person, police findings on the sequence and motive of the violence, and publication of the legal framework for the proposed Park Management System.
