Kano NSCDC arrests four suspects, reports suspected marijuana recovery

Kano NSCDC arrests four after Gaida operation, reports suspected marijuana seizure

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kano State says it has arrested four men following an operation in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area, over suspected illicit-drug activity.

The command said the arrests followed intelligence and a covert operation by personnel of its Counter Terrorism Unit based at Dorayi Babba in Gwale Local Government Area.

Those arrested were identified by the NSCDC as Abubakar Abdullahi, 35; Rabiu Baffa, 25; Aminu Lawan, 35; and Ibrahim Idris, 33.

The four have not been convicted of any offence.

What NSCDC says it recovered

According to the command, officers recovered four sachets of Pregabalin 300mg capsules, dozens of Diazepam tablets and three tubes of Oshin Solution.

NSCDC also reported recovering three large packs and 20 parcels containing what it described as suspected marijuana.

The current public record reviewed by IDNN does not include a laboratory report confirming the identity of that suspected substance.

Recovery of items also does not, by itself, prove ownership, trafficking or criminal intent by any individual arrested.

NDLEA handover planned

Kano NSCDC Commandant Mohammed Hassan Agalama said the corps had completed its preliminary investigation.

He said the four suspects and the recovered exhibits would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Kano for further investigation and possible legal action.

IDNN has not established that the handover has already taken place.

Legal status remains unresolved

NSCDC has described the four men as suspects in an alleged illicit-drug operation.

That remains the agency’s allegation.

Arrest is not conviction.

The material reviewed by IDNN does not establish a filed charge, plea, remand order, bail decision or court judgment.

It also does not establish a wider trafficking network.

For now, the verified position is limited:

Four men were arrested in Gaida following an NSCDC operation.

The corps says pharmaceutical products and parcels of suspected marijuana were recovered.

NSCDC says it plans to transfer the suspects and exhibits to NDLEA for further investigation.

Any criminal responsibility remains to be determined through investigation and the court process.
