Military reports one alleged fighter killed, arms recovered in Yobe operation

The Nigerian military says troops killed one alleged Boko Haram fighter and recovered a rifle and ammunition during an operation in the Lamusuri area of Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State.

The operation took place at about 11 a.m. on September 1, according to Operation Hadin Kai.

Capt. Mohammed Goni, acting military information officer for the Joint Task Force North East, said troops of the 120 Task Force Battalion under Sector 2 worked with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force during the operation.

The military said the troops acted on intelligence about the movement of suspected Boko Haram fighters along a route in the area.

According to Goni, troops encountered a group and a firefight followed.

He said one alleged fighter was killed while others fled with what the military described as suspected gunshot wounds.

The military also reported recovering one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 90 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and one body pouch.

Those casualty and recovery details remain military-attributed.
