Nigeria’s Draw for the 2026 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships

The ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships will take place in London in 2026. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first World Championships, which were also held in London. Nigeria has been placed in Group 15 for the men’s competition, alongside Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.

Historic Celebrations at The Shard

The draw took place at The Shard, kicking off a historic edition of the championships. It celebrates 100 years of the World Championships. ITTF President Petra Sörling remarked, “From London to London, we have come full circle.” She emphasized how special it is for the event to return to its birthplace.

Tough Competitions for Nigeria’s Men’s Team

Nigeria’s men’s team, led by Quadri Aruna, will face a challenging group. Hong Kong, with some of the world’s best young players, will be a tough opponent. Additionally, Saudi Arabia and South Africa will also make the road to the knockout stages difficult for Nigeria.

Women’s Draw: Nigeria Faces Strong Rivals

In the women’s event, Fatimo Bello will lead Nigeria’s team in Group 11. The team will compete against Australia, Uzbekistan, and Wales. These teams will test Nigeria’s strength and skill.

Africa’s Champions: Egypt in Favorable Draw

Egypt has been drawn favorably in the men’s competition. They will face Kazakhstan, Turkey, and Thailand. On the women’s side, Hana Goda will lead Egypt’s team against Algeria, South Africa, and Syria.

France, silver medalists from the last edition, will play in Group 2. They will face Japan, Germany, and Chinese Taipei as they aim to win the Swaythling Cup for the first time.

The Women’s Competition: England’s and China’s Strongholds

For the women’s competition, hosts England find themselves in Group 2. They will be joined by Japan, Germany, and France. Meanwhile, China leads Group 1. Their group also includes Korea Republic, Chinese Taipei, and Romania.

Stage 1: Critical Knockout Stages and Seeding

Nigeria’s teams have been drawn in tough groups at the ITTF World Team Championships in London.

The championships will run from April 28 to May 10. Stage 1a will be held at OVO Arena Wembley from May 2-3. Group performances will determine seeding for the knockout rounds. Stage 1b will be at the Copper Box Arena from April 28 to May 1. During this stage, 56 teams will compete for 24 spots in the main draw.
