Aviation Minister Keyamo Says Decision Pending on KWAM1 After Airport Apology

By: IDNN News Desk

Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo has said the Nigerian government has yet to decide on the fate of Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM1, following his public apology over a controversial incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

In a message to PUNCH on Friday, Keyamo confirmed seeing the apology but stressed that no formal position had been reached.

KWAM1 CASE STILL OPEN

“We have just seen this (apology) on social media like everyone else. We have not had the opportunity to deliberate on it,” the minister said.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Thursday reaffirmed that it had petitioned both the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police to investigate and possibly prosecute KWAM1 for the August 5 incident involving ValueJet officials.

The musician has denied reports that he attempted to carry alcohol through security, insisting the flask in his possession contained water for medical reasons.

“I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised me to remain constantly hydrated. The flask contained only water — not alcohol,” KWAM1 said in his statement, which also apologised to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, and Nigerians.

The ValueJet altercation has since drawn responses from industry bodies and the public, with some defending the musician’s account and others demanding sanctions. The government’s decision will follow the outcome of the pending investigations.
