President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with a reward package that includes $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for every member of the 11-man coaching and technical crew, and a three-bedroom flat for all team members and staff at the Renewed Hope Estate.

The announcement came during a presidential reception at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, following D’Tigress’s historic fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title — a 78–64 victory over Mali in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing the President, praised the team’s resilience and tactical excellence, highlighting their 29-game unbeaten run in the competition.

“Beyond being ambassadors of our nation, you have shown the power of sports to unite a diverse country. You brought home more than a trophy — you brought valuable lessons of discipline, teamwork, and pride,” Shettima said.
