CHAN 2024: Nduka Junior Says Super Eagles Camp Intense, Competitive

By IDNN Football Bureau

Super Eagles B defender Nduka Junior has described the ongoing training sessions for CHAN 2024 as “intense, competitive, and sharply focused,” as players battle for final selection under Coach Salisu Yusuf.

Speaking after the team’s second session in Ikenne, Ogun State, the Remo Stars player said the tempo and mindset in camp reflect how seriously the players are taking this opportunity.

“Everyone is under pressure — the good kind,” he told NFF TV.
“We’re pushing hard. Two sessions in, it’s already fire. The competition is real.”

The Nigerian squad is prepping for the 2024 African Nations Championship, co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, which only permits players active in domestic leagues.

As of Wednesday morning, 28 players were in camp following the addition of Anthony Ijeoma and Sunday Megwo of Abia Warriors.

Aniekeme Okon of Rivers United added that the players know this may be their best shot at international exposure.

“We’re giving everything. Everyone’s pushing to make the cut. That hunger is what drives this team right now.”

Leonard Ngenge of Ikorodu City also spoke to the challenge.

“This is amazing for me. I’m grateful to be here, and I want to give the coach every reason to keep me in the final squad.”

The Super Eagles are expected to begin closed-door tactical drills next week as the squad narrows ahead of CAF submission deadlines.
