ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong condemnation of the mob killing of wedding-bound travelers in Plateau State, calling the attack “barbaric and unacceptable”, and directing security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a statement on Sunday by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the loss of lives, including the father and brother of the groom, as tragic and inhumane.

“Freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable,” Tinubu declared. “We will not tolerate any attempt to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence.”

The President urged the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to work with intelligence and military agencies to ensure the attackers are swiftly arrested and prosecuted.

“This dastardly act will not go unpunished,” he assured the victims’ families and the government of Kaduna State, where the travellers originated.

Tinubu also challenged the Plateau State Government to take decisive action to curb the cycle of violence in the region, calling for strong collaboration with federal security agencies to get to the root of the crisis.

“Let this tragedy serve as a deterrent to future barbarism,” the President stated.

He offered condolences to the families of the victims, and reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on ethnic or religious violence under any pretext.
