The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the introduction of special additional train trips along its Lagos–Ibadan and Abuja–Kaduna standard gauge corridors to ease the post-Eid Kabir travel rush.

According to the NRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the extended service schedule on Monday and Tuesday follows the overwhelming passenger turnout during the special festive trips conducted on June 5.

“We’re responding to demand. All trains were fully booked on June 5. This extension will ensure smoother return travel for citizens,” Opeifa said.

Revised Schedules

Lagos–Ibadan Corridor (Monday, June 9):

  • Lagos → Ibadan: 8:00 AM, 1:55 PM, 4:00 PM

  • Ibadan → Lagos: 8:00 AM, 11:03 AM, 4:46 PM

Abuja–Kaduna Corridor (Extended through Tuesday, June 11):

  • Abuja → Kaduna: 7:45 AM, 2:00 PM, 3:10 PM

  • Kaduna → Abuja: 7:00 AM, 2:00 PM, 5:00 PM

Opeifa emphasized that online bookings are encouraged and early arrival for boarding is mandatory to maintain security and punctuality.

Public Applauds NRC’s Quick Response

Commuters welcomed the move, describing it as “a rare show of responsive governance” in Nigeria’s transport sector.

“This is what proactive leadership looks like — planning for the people,” a passenger in Abuja told IDNN.

NRC Says Capacity Growing

Opeifa reaffirmed NRC’s commitment to providing efficient, safe, and scalable rail services, noting that the successful deployment of festive trains in June underscores a growing demand for rail-based intercity mobility.

“We are expanding our reach and reliability. Nigerians are embracing rail again,” he added.
