Shasha Road repairs begin in Alimosho after pothole complaints

Lagos begins repairs on Shasha Road after months of pothole complaints

Repair work has begun around the Jimoh end of Shasha Road in Alimosho, after months of complaints from residents and motorists over potholes and difficult driving conditions.

Workers of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation were observed carrying out repairs in the area, where damaged sections had forced motorists to slow down and manoeuvre around potholes.

Earlier complaints had identified problems around Jimoh, Ajako and Moshalashi, with road users describing difficult movement along sections of the corridor.

Repairs begin, but full scope remains unclear

The visible intervention confirms that repair work has started around Jimoh.

It does not yet establish that the entire Shasha Road corridor is being rehabilitated or that all previously reported damaged sections are included in the current work.

IDNN has not established a complete project scope, contract value, contractor schedule or official completion date from the material reviewed.

A resident, Kolapo Raheem, said the work had begun several days earlier and welcomed the intervention after months of complaints about the road.

For motorists and residents, the immediate test is whether the repairs extend beyond the first visible work areas and address other damaged sections along the corridor.

Daily movement affected by potholes

Before the intervention, motorists approaching from the Dopemu and Akowonjo axis had been forced to slow sharply around damaged sections near Jimoh.

Further along the corridor, some road users were reported manoeuvring around potholes and moving across parts of the carriageway to avoid badly damaged sections.

For residents, traders and commuters, the consequence has been slower journeys and more difficult access along a road serving several communities in Alimosho.

Wider traffic context

Separate traffic reporting from the wider Dopemu axis on October 15 recorded rehabilitation-related delays around Goye Intersection.

The same update said movement from Shasha Traffic Light towards Vulcanizer was faster at the time.

That wider traffic report should not be read as evidence that the current Shasha Road repair work caused all delays in the area.

What remains unanswered

The Lagos State Government has not yet publicly established, in the material reviewed by IDNN, how much of Shasha Road is covered by the current intervention or when the work is expected to be completed.

It is also not yet clear whether the repairs are limited to pothole treatment and resurfacing or form part of a wider rehabilitation programme.

There is no verified documentary basis yet for stating the project cost, contractor details or that the Ajako and Moshalashi sections are included.

What happens next

The accountability test is whether the intervention addresses the wider damaged corridor rather than stopping at the first visible repair points.

IDNN will track the full scope of the work, any official completion timetable, traffic effects during repairs and whether other damaged sections around Ajako and Moshalashi are included.
