Rivers Police Arrest Two Suspects After Kidnap Victim Released Following Alleged ₦10.3m Ransom
Rivers State Police say they have arrested two suspects after a Port Harcourt resident was abducted, held for three days and later released following an alleged ₦10.3 million ransom payment by relatives.
Police said the victim, identified as Hassan, was abducted around the Fidelity Bank/Garrison area of Port Harcourt on September 6, 2026, and taken to Igbugulu Waterside in Borikiri.
He was released three days later.
According to police, relatives allegedly paid ₦10.3 million before his release. IDNN has not independently verified that payment through family testimony, transaction records or other financial evidence.
Police later announced the arrest of two men they described as suspected members of an alleged six-person kidnapping syndicate.
The arrests do not establish guilt.
Police also said preliminary investigation produced alleged confessions linking the suspects to the kidnapping. Those claims remain part of the police case and have not been tested in court.
The active story file does not establish that either suspect has been formally charged, arraigned or convicted.
It is also not yet clear whether any part of the alleged ransom has been recovered.
For residents, the case raises two immediate questions: whether police can identify and arrest any remaining suspects, and whether alleged ransom payments can be traced.
The next legal step will also matter. Formal charges, if filed, would show what evidence prosecutors are prepared to place before a court.
The arrests begin the legal process; they do not complete the proof.
IDNN will update this report if police announce further arrests, confirm charge or arraignment status, recover funds or provide new evidence.
