Police investigate death of former Bauchi APC women leader

Police probe suspected killing of former Bauchi APC women leader

The Bauchi State Police Command has opened a homicide investigation into the death of Jemimah Dutse, a former Zonal Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress in Bauchi South.

Police said Dutse was found dead inside her residence at Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, Bauchi, on October 3.

According to the command, officers responding to the report found her body in a pool of blood with an injury to her neck.

Police are treating the case as a suspected killing involving unidentified assailants.

Homicide detectives take over case

The command said officers documented the scene before Dutse’s body was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for medical examination and autopsy.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu subsequently directed that the investigation be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department.

Police said investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding Dutse’s death and identify those responsible.

No suspect had been publicly identified in the police account reviewed for this report.

No political motive established

Dutse’s former position as an APC zonal women leader gives the case public and political significance.

However, police have not established any political motive for her death, and there is no verified basis at this stage to link the suspected killing to her party role or political activities.

The command expressed condolences to her family, friends and political associates and said further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.

For now, what is established is that Dutse was found dead inside her residence and that police have opened a homicide investigation.

What remains unknown is who carried out the attack, the motive, whether any suspect has been identified, and what the autopsy and wider investigation will establish.
