Plateau: NSCDC Officer Reportedly Killed, Businessman Abducted in Mangu

NSCDC Officer Reportedly Killed, Businessman Abducted in Plateau Community

An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps was reportedly killed and a businessman abducted by gunmen in Pushit community, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident was reported to have happened on Monday night, October 19.

Multiple news reports relying on community accounts agree on the central sequence: a businessman was abducted and an NSCDC officer was shot as the attackers left the community.

As of the latest reports checked by IDNN, police and other security authorities had not issued a formal public statement confirming the incident.

Community Accounts Describe Killing and Abduction

Residents quoted in published reports said the gunmen abducted a businessman who deals in fuel, cement and fertiliser.

As the attackers were leaving Pushit with the businessman, they reportedly encountered an NSCDC officer riding a motorcycle near his residence.

Community accounts say the attackers opened fire on the officer, who later died.

The sequence is consistent across several reports, but it remains based mainly on witness and community accounts rather than a consolidated official security statement.

Exact Time Remains Unclear

Published reports differ on the exact time of the attack.

Some place it at about 9:30 p.m., while another gives about 8:00 p.m.

Because that discrepancy has not been reconciled by an authoritative account, IDNN is describing the incident only as occurring on Monday night.

Officerโ€™s Identity Remains Partly Unresolved

One published report identifies the officer as Deputy Superintendent Distu Garba Audu.

Other reports do not independently establish his full identity, and no primary security statement checked by IDNN has conclusively confirmed the name.

IDNN is therefore withholding the officerโ€™s full identity from the headline and lead.

Businessmanโ€™s Whereabouts Still Unclear

The abducted businessman had not been reported released in the latest accounts checked by IDNN.

Community members have appealed to security agencies and the Plateau State Government to strengthen security in Pushit and secure his release.

Until authorities provide a confirmed update, his status remains unresolved.

Incident Reported During Curfew

The attack was reported to have occurred while a dusk-to-dawn curfew was in force in parts of Mangu following earlier violence.

That creates an accountability question about what security measures accompanied the restriction and what response followed the Pushit incident.

But an attack occurring during a curfew does not, by itself, establish negligence or prove that the security measure failed.

Authorities still need to explain what security presence was in place and what action followed the reported killing and abduction.

What Authorities Still Need to Establish

Several important questions remain unanswered.

Who carried out the attack?

Where is the abducted businessman?

What security response followed the incident?

Has any suspect been identified or arrested?

And what additional protection has been deployed around Pushit and neighbouring communities?

For now, the verified position is narrower than earlier accounts suggested: multiple reports based on community sources describe the killing of an NSCDC officer and the abduction of a businessman in Pushit on Monday night, but formal security confirmation, the officerโ€™s full identity, the exact attack time and the businessmanโ€™s current whereabouts remain unresolved.
