JOS, PLATEAU — Governor Caleb Mutfwang has vowed to bring those responsible for the Mangu mob killings to justice, describing the attack on wedding-bound travellers as a “horrific, senseless tragedy” that has no justification, even in the face of repeated terrorist raids.

Addressing journalists after visiting victims at the General Hospital in Mangu, Mutfwang declared:

“This is utterly unacceptable. The government will not sweep this tragedy under the carpet.”

The governor revealed that the victims had lost their way and inadvertently entered Mangun village — an area under severe stress from frequent terrorist attacks. Still, he insisted this does not excuse mob violence.

“We are trying to build a Plateau that is welcoming to all. We’ve worked hard to educate our youths on peaceful conduct and free road passage,” he said.

Mutfwang confirmed that he had:

  • Spoken with Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna

  • Contacted the Emir of Zazzau

  • Dispatched a high-powered delegation to Zaria to formally deliver the condolences of the government and people of Plateau State

“Plateau must not become a land where wrong roads lead to death,” he warned.

The governor also ordered all medical facilities to offer full care to survivors at government expense, while directing security agencies to intensify investigations and arrests.

He reiterated that while Plateau faces a security siege in Mangu, Bokkos, Riyom, Barkin Ladi, and Bassa, jungle justice cannot be allowed to replace lawful order.
