PDP Rejects “Command Structure” Politics
ABUJA — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified its decision not to sanction Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, for working against the party during the 2023 elections.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba said the party is managed through dialogue and democratic engagement, not authoritarian commands.
“This is not a command structure. The PDP is not owned by one individual. Different views, ideas, and contestations must be harmonised,” Ologunagba said.

Democratic Processes Over Punishment
Ologunagba stressed that the party’s focus is reconciliation and preparation for its elective national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan.
He said: “The party is based on organisation and process. We strive to follow those processes, which is why this new arrangement for the convention is credible and inclusive.”
He added that every NEC member, including Wike, was invited to preparatory meetings. Notices were published in newspapers, and letters were acknowledged in his office. “To say he was not invited is simply not true,” Ologunagba maintained.
2027 and Party Unity
The PDP spokesman noted that despite internal disagreements, all party organs—the Governors’ Forum, NEC, Board of Trustees, and state chapters—are united behind the zoning decision that placed the 2027 presidential ticket in the South.
“The party was never in intensive care. Yes, we had challenges, but PDP has recalibrated and is prepared to deliver again,” he said.
Broader Implications
Political observers say the PDP’s refusal to sanction Wike underscores its attempt to preserve fragile internal unity ahead of 2027. Critics, however, argue that leniency could embolden dissenters.
Ologunagba insisted the party has reached a phase where discipline will be enforced but emphasised: “Our priority has been reconciliation. Now we move to consequences.”
