Okpebholo Declares Win for All Edo People as Tribunal Dismisses PDP Petition

Okpebholo Tribunal Victory Upheld: Tribunal Dismisses PDP Petition for Lack of Evidence

The Edo State Election Petition Tribunal has upheld the victory of Governor Monday Okpebholo, affirming the result of the September 2024 governorship election. The tribunal ruled that the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, lacked credible evidence to back claims of electoral irregularities.

According to the tribunal, “no competent witnesses were called” to substantiate the allegations raised by the petitioners. As a result, the panel affirmed the victory of Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, who was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Election Recap: Okpebholo Defeated Ighodalo by Over 44,000 Votes

In the 2024 Edo governorship election, Okpebholo polled 291,667 votes, defeating Ighodalo, who secured 247,274 votes. Despite the clear margin, Ighodalo and the PDP challenged the outcome, alleging voting irregularities and manipulation. However, the tribunal found no merit in their claims, effectively sealing Okpebholo’s mandate.

Okpebholo Calls for Unity, Extends Olive Branch to Opposition

Reacting to the tribunal’s judgment, Governor Okpebholo described the ruling as a victory for all Edo citizens, not just a personal win. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor extended an olive branch to Ighodalo and members of the opposition.

“This victory is not mine alone, but a victory for every citizen and resident of Edo State,” he said. “We must now come together to build the future we all desire.”

Okpebholo called on all stakeholders to put politics aside and join hands with his administration for the collective progress of Edo State.

Focused on Delivery, Not Distractions

Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s focus on delivering good governance and fulfilling campaign promises. He dismissed the legal challenge as a distraction that would not derail his development agenda.

“We are focused on continuing the good work we have started. This mandate is an opportunity to continue building a state where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

He emphasized his commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and prosperity, promising that his leadership would continue to put the people first.

🔎 DGR8Z Analysis: The Real Test Begins Now

While the Okpebholo tribunal victory affirms electoral legitimacy, the real task lies ahead—uniting a divided electorate and delivering results. The governor has a strong mandate, but with rising expectations across the state, this is a moment to turn political capital into tangible progress.

Will opposition voices be included in governance? Will the promises made on the campaign trail become reality? Edo citizens are watching.
