Ogunbote to See Out 3SC Contract Amid Kano Pillars Link and Exit Rumours

IBADAN – June 14, 2025 | IDNN NPFL Desk

Gbenga Ogunbote will remain as head coach of Shooting Stars (3SC) until the end of the 2025/26 season, squashing growing rumours of a switch to Kano Pillars, according to club sources.

Ogunbote signed a two-year extension in June 2024, locking in his stay in Ibadan until 2026 — despite previous speculation over his job security during 3SC’s late-season struggles.

Contract First, Rumours Later

Veteran coach Gbenga Ogunbote is set to honour his contract at Shooting Stars until 2026

Reports linking the experienced tactician to Kano Pillars — whom he previously coached — intensified after 3SC’s mid-table finish in the 2024/25 NPFL campaign.

3SC ended eighth with 54 points, just one spot above Pillars, who also endured instability after suspending coach Usman Abdallah for nearly two months.

Despite the Pillars’ internal drama and coaching vacancy, Ogunbote’s camp has maintained silence, reaffirming his current commitment to 3SC.

One Trophy, Two Decades of Experience

Ogunbote’s sole major silverware remains the 2018 Federation Cup, which he won with Rangers International.

He’s widely respected for stabilizing teams and mentoring youth, but his title credentials continue to face scrutiny, especially with 3SC falling short after showing early promise last season.

Next Season: Make or Break?

With renewed pressure to deliver silverware and restore 3SC to continental relevance, the coming NPFL season could be the most defining phase of Ogunbote’s managerial career.

For now, Ibadan is where the journey continues.
