Ogulube residents seek road, water intervention as project records raise delivery questions
Residents of Ogulube community in Anambra State say poor road access and inadequate water and electricity are affecting farming and daily life, while older project records raise questions about what has been funded and delivered.
ANAMBRA — Residents of Ogulube community in Ebenebe, Awka North Local Government Area, are seeking government intervention over road access, electricity and potable water, saying infrastructure gaps are affecting farming, movement and other economic activity.
Residents have said difficult access roads make it harder to move farm produce to markets and contribute to losses. They also complain of inadequate electricity and potable-water access.
Those service conditions remain resident accounts. IDNN has not independently established their current extent across Ogulube.
Farmers point to road access problems
Many residents who raised the complaints described themselves as farmers.
They said poor access increases the difficulty and cost of moving produce and called for government officials and elected representatives to assess the community’s infrastructure needs.
The complaint raises a broader accountability question: what road, water and electricity projects have been approved for the area, and what has actually been delivered?
2021 federal road project raises delivery questions
A federal project record lists the Construction of Umuogbo-Ogulube Rural Road, Ebenebe, Awka North Local Government Area.
The project carried a ₦10 million appropriation in 2021 under a federal programme.
Project-tracking platform Eyemark later recorded the project as “Not Started”, with that record last modified on August 20, 2024.
That status is historical. It does not establish whether the road remained unexecuted in September 2026, whether further funding was provided or whether responsibility for the project changed.
The relevant federal authorities therefore need to clarify what happened after the last recorded update.
Wider Ebenebe water programme appears in state budget
Anambra State’s 2024 appropriation also contained a ₦50 million budget line for “New Awka Urban Water (Amansea-Ebenebe Water Exploitation)”.
The existence of that programme does not establish that Ogulube is connected to it or currently receives potable water from it.
The state has separately said it intends to expand access to reliable water and electricity in underserved communities.
For Ogulube, the unanswered question is specific: what services currently reach the community, and what further intervention is planned?
Responsibility crosses different institutions
The documentary trail does not point to a single authority.
The older Umuogbo-Ogulube road project identified by IDNN is a federal project, while the broader Amansea-Ebenebe water programme appears in Anambra State budget records.
Awka North authorities and elected representatives may also have separate responsibilities for local projects and service delivery.
As of September 24, IDNN found no direct response to the specific Ogulube complaints in the official and public sources reviewed.
Federal authorities need to clarify the current status of the road project. The Anambra State Government needs to establish whether its wider water and electricity programmes presently serve Ogulube. Awka North authorities can clarify any local interventions or assessments.
For residents, the consequence is practical: they say poor road access affects the movement of agricultural produce, while inadequate water and electricity constrain daily life and economic activity.
The accountability test is measurable: what was approved, what was funded, what was delivered and what timetable exists now for Ogulube?
