Nigeria could enjoy full and uninterrupted electricity supply before the end of President Bola Tinubu’s tenure in 2027, according to Minister of Power Bayo Adelabu.

Speaking at the commissioning of a 15MVA injection substation in Ikotun-Egbe, Lagos, Adelabu said the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda has prioritised power as the backbone of economic growth and job creation.

“Energy is not just a commodity; it is the backbone of economic growth. President Tinubu’s government is committed to delivering sustainable and reliable electricity nationwide,” Adelabu said.

Bayo Adelabu says Nigeria will have full electricity before Tinubu’s tenure ends — ₦2.7trn needed for 149 TCN projects.

💰 Funding the Power Push

Adelabu revealed that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) requires ₦2.7 trillion to complete 149 projects across the country aimed at strengthening the grid and improving electricity supply.

Key achievements so far include:

  • Decentralisation of the power sector via the Electricity Act 2023, enabling 12 state electricity markets.

  • Attraction of over $2 billion in fresh investment to expand access.

  • Increase in installed capacity from 13GW to 14GW, with record peaks in daily energy delivery.

  • Addition of 700MW transmission capacity under the Siemens project.

⚡ Challenges Remain

The Minister acknowledged persistent distribution bottlenecks, shortfalls in market remittances, and customer complaints about outages. He pledged stronger collaboration with DisCos to fix these issues.

The Lagos substation project, completed in 12 months, is expected to improve power reliability for communities including Abaranje, Isijola, Igando Road, Omoboriowo, and Okerube.
