Nigeria Takes Centre Stage in West African Football With Twin Hosting Duties

Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria will host the 2025 WAFU B U-17 Championship in September, as confirmed by NFF President Ibrahim Gusau during a strategic visit to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The tournament will serve as a qualifier for the 2025 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, and will feature top youth sides from Burkina Faso, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Niger Republic, and Benin Republic.

  • MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta – Fully renovated for international action

  • Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne – NPFL champions’ fortress meets youth excellence

“We’ve upgraded both stadiums to international standard,” said Governor Abiodun. “Now we’re ready to host Africa’s future stars.”

🦅 Super Falcons Double-Header vs Cameroon Confirmed in Ogun

In a further boost to Ogun’s growing football portfolio, the Super Falcons will play two friendly matches against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses:

  • 🗓️ May 31, 2025 – Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne

  • 🗓️ June 3, 2025 – MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta

The matches form part of Nigeria’s preparation for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where they face Botswana, Tunisia, and Algeria in Group B.

“These events are part of our broader strategy to decentralize national team matches and integrate the states into football development,” Gusau said.

“Ogun has shown it is ready — and now the games are coming.”
