Senate Firestorm: Akpoti Says Suspension Was Orchestrated, Not Earned

“He Handled It Like I Was a Staff in His Living Room” — Natasha Akpoti Blasts Akpabio Over Suspension

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has lit up the political arena with explosive claims that her suspension from the Senate was a pre-planned ambush, not a disciplinary response.

Speaking in an interview with journalist Adeola Fayehun, Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio trampled due process and turned the Red Chamber into a personal playground.

“He handled it like I was a staff in his living room,” she said. “It was prewritten. A power script.”

The Real Reason? A Damning Petition Before Suspension

Akpoti-Uduaghan revealed that her suspension came just one day after she submitted a formal petition to the Senate leadership, accusing key figures of impropriety.

“They used the ethics committee as a smokescreen. My petition shook the system. And they moved to silence me — fast.”

She argued that the Senate Rules don’t allow a President to unilaterally suspend any member, yet Akpabio allegedly ordered the Clerk to prepare her suspension letter on the spot.

“This Was Retaliation. Plain and Simple.”

According to Natasha, the suspension wasn’t about any floor misconduct — as was claimed — but a coordinated effort to remove a vocal critic from key committee activity and legislative influence.

“They wanted me out because I wouldn’t play the game. I wouldn’t give kickbacks. I wouldn’t join the club,” she declared.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan calls her suspension “retaliation,” accusing Akpabio of turning the Senate into a tool of personal revenge.

In a further bombshell, the Kogi senator claimed Akpabio demanded “progress reports” — a code word she said was euphemism for “returns.” She refused.

“I told him to his face — I won’t do it. He told me I wasn’t fit to lead a committee. Then came the pressure, then the smear, then the suspension.”

Natasha also alleged that multiple senators face similar coercion behind closed doors but remain silent out of fear.

“Budget time is war. If you don’t play along, you’re targeted.”

Institutional Breakdown or Political Mafia?

The Akpoti-Akpabio rift now raises bigger questions:

  • Is Nigeria’s Senate truly independent?

  • Are committee chairs being used for personal or political gain?

  • Are dissenters being purged in plain sight?

With her return from suspension, Natasha says she’s not backing down.

“The Senate isn’t Akpabio’s family living room. We must resist this creeping dictatorship.”
