Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has formally announced his bid to contest the Nasarawa State governorship election in 2027 under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adamu, who served as Nigeria’s 20th Inspector-General of Police between 2019 and 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, made his declaration during a meeting with members of the APC State Working Committee in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

He said his decision to join the governorship race was driven by what he described as a “clarion call” from the people of Nasarawa who believe in his leadership qualities and wealth of experience.

“I am answering the call of my people who believe I can serve and move Nasarawa forward,” Adamu stated.
“My administration, by the grace of God, will be inclusive, transparent, and focused on delivering tangible development across all sectors.”

His entrance into the race adds a heavyweight contender to the growing field of aspirants eyeing the Nasarawa Government House in 2027.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, the incumbent APC governor, is currently serving his second term and will be ineligible to contest again, setting the stage for a potentially intense internal party contest.

Political observers note that Adamu’s national stature and security experience could become a major asset in a state grappling with communal clashes and infrastructure challenges.

Sources within the APC suggest that Adamu’s candidacy could realign political alliances in the state, particularly among key stakeholders who see him as a unifying figure.

Analysts say the 2027 Nasarawa governorship election is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in the state’s history, with high-profile aspirants entering the fray early.

Adamu’s next steps will likely involve building a strong grassroots structure and navigating the complex internal dynamics of the APC ahead of the party primaries.
