K1 De Ultimate Sparks Controversy on Abuja-Lagos Flight
By IDNN Culture, Travel & Regulation Desk
Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, is at the centre of an aviation safety probe after allegedly refusing to comply with cabin regulations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, as K1 attempted to board a ValueJet Airlines flight to Lagos with a flask containing alcohol—a violation of domestic aviation protocols.
Security Clash Escalates — Drink Spilled on Airport Officer
According to statements from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the confrontation began when aviation security personnel instructed K1 to hand over the unidentified liquid.
“The passenger declined and spilled the contents of the flask on the officer, which turned out to be alcohol,” FAAN revealed in a public statement.
When the flight captain intervened, the musician allegedly resisted again.

Pilot Decision Raises Further Concerns
Tensions escalated when K1 reportedly moved to the front of the aircraft, refusing to vacate the tarmac zone near the plane.
Multiple eyewitnesses confirmed the situation led to a delay in the flight’s departure, with video footage later surfacing online showing the Fuji star standing near the plane while officials tried to calm him.
Despite the tension, the flight reportedly took off—prompting further concerns from aviation regulators.
NCAA Suspends Pilots Over Safety Protocol Breach
Reacting to the viral footage and incident report, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) swiftly suspended two ValueJet pilots involved in the flight:
-
Oluranti Ogoyi (Captain)
-
Ivan Oloba (First Officer)
According to the NCAA, the pilots began departure procedures without proper clearance, potentially endangering both the crew and those near the aircraft.
“The safety of Nigerian airspace cannot be compromised, regardless of personalities involved,” said NCAA Public Affairs Director Michael Achimugu.
FAAN: “Status Doesn’t Excuse Safety Violations”
FAAN doubled down on its position, insisting that no individual—celebrity or otherwise—would be allowed to violate aviation law.
“We will not tolerate any actions that undermine aviation safety standards, regardless of the individuals involved,” said spokesperson Obiageli Orah.
KWAM 1 Silent So Far — Fallout Mounts
K1, a known ally of President Tinubu and a revered cultural figure, has not issued a public response.
FAAN and NCAA, however, have vowed to complete full investigations and hold all responsible parties accountable under the law.
