ISWAP attack on Pulka military base repelled, one soldier wounded — Nigerian military

Military says troops repel ISWAP attack on Pulka base, one soldier wounded

The Nigerian military says troops repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province fighters on a military position in Pulka, Borno State, leaving one soldier wounded.

The attack occurred on 7 September 2026 in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area, according to Operation Hadin Kai, the joint military task force responsible for counter-terrorism operations in the North-East.

Acting Military Information Officer Capt. Mohammed Goni said the attackers attempted to overrun the position but were pushed back by security forces.

Those details come from the military’s account of the engagement and have not been independently verified by IDNN.

One soldier wounded

Operation Hadin Kai said one soldier sustained a gunshot wound to his arm during the attack.

The soldier was evacuated for treatment, stabilised and reported to be responding to care.

The military also said the attackers withdrew with casualties. IDNN has not independently established any casualty figure among the suspected insurgents, and no such figure is treated as confirmed.

Military says Pulka remained under its control

In its latest Pulka-specific account, Operation Hadin Kai said the military position remained under security-force control after the attack.

Authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.

No independently verified evidence reviewed by IDNN establishes a renewed attack on Pulka after the September 7 incident.

The available information therefore supports a narrower conclusion: an armed attack occurred, one soldier was wounded, and the military says the position was not overrun.

For residents, the next public-interest question is whether the incident will lead to any new threat, restriction, displacement or disruption in Pulka and surrounding communities.

Until fresh evidence emerges, the military’s account should remain clearly attributed and the security situation treated as developing rather than resolved.
