Police in Gombe State say two men have been arrested in connection with the killing of Aishatu Salisu, wife of a serving police officer, during an alleged robbery at Wuro Shie Quarters.
The Gombe State Police Command said the incident happened at about 4:35 a.m. on September 26 at the residence of Inspector Salisu Waziri, who is attached to the Safer Highway Patrol.
According to police, armed assailants entered the residence and attempted to take Aishatu Salisu’s mobile phone.
The command said she raised an alarm and was attacked with a machete before police said the assailants fled, leaving the phone behind.
Police said officers from Pantami Division responded and took her to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where she was certified dead.
Two suspects arrested
Police named the suspects as Muhammad Bashir Sale, 20, also known as “Full”, and Musa Sale Ahmad, 18, also known as “Abba”.
Both are residents of Wuro Shie Quarters, according to the command.
Police said the two were arrested on September 26 as investigators worked to identify those involved in the attack.
The command also said a sharp knife was recovered as an exhibit.
Police further said the suspects confessed during preliminary investigation.
That remains a police claim. A reported confession does not establish guilt, and IDNN has not independently reviewed any statement attributed to either suspect.
No court has found either man guilty of the offences under investigation.
Investigation moved to State CID
The command said the case is now being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Commissioner of Police Umar Ahmed Chuso directed investigators to conduct what the command described as a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought before the law.
The current public record reviewed by IDNN does not establish whether formal charges have been filed or whether either suspect has been arraigned.
Those distinctions remain important.
Arrest is not conviction. A police allegation, recovered exhibit or claimed confession must still be tested through the legal process.
Questions remain over charging and evidence
The next stage of the case is therefore no longer only about the arrests.
Police still need to establish what evidence links each suspect to the attack, the evidential significance of the recovered knife, and whether prosecutors will approve charges.
Authorities also need to clarify whether any additional suspects are being sought.
