The Edo State Police Command says it arrested 13 suspected kidnappers and rescued nine kidnapped victims in operations carried out across the state during August 2026.
Commissioner of Police Patrick Daaor disclosed the figures during the command’s end-of-month briefing in Benin City.
The figures represent several police operations during the month and should not be read as the result of one single raid.
The 13 people remain suspects.
Their arrest does not establish guilt, and the allegations against them remain subject to investigation and the legal process.
Police Detail Jattu Kidnapping Investigation
Among the operations highlighted by the command was the investigation into the August 8 abduction of a couple in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area.
Police said five suspects linked to that case were arrested in Niger State on August 30.
The command said information obtained during the investigation later led officers to Okpella forest on September 1, where police reported recovering two fabricated AK-47 rifles, a pump-action rifle, six magazines and 200 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.
The September 1 recovery occurred after the August reporting period and forms part of a follow-up investigation.
Those recovery details remain police claims and have not been independently established by IDNN.
Nine Victims Rescued Across August Operations
Police also said nine kidnapped victims were rescued during the command’s anti-kidnapping operations in August.
