Dangote’s Bold Move: Petrol Price Slashed to N815/Litre Amid Intense Market Battle

Dangote Petrol Price Cut: Refinery Drops Price to N815/Litre Amid Market Competition

Dangote Petrol Price Cut has sparked fresh competition in Nigeria’s fiercely contested downstream oil sector as Dangote Petroleum Refinery reduced its petrol loading price from N825 per litre to N815 per litre, intensifying market battles among fuel marketers and depot owners.

This strategic Dangote Petrol Price Cut, executed quietly on Thursday, has significantly shaken the industry. Oil marketers have responded positively by bypassing private depots to source petrol directly from Dangote’s 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery. Analysts expect this N10 per litre reduction to force private depots to adjust their prices downwards to remain competitive.

Earlier this week, the landing cost of imported petrol fell to N774.72 per litre, well below Dangote’s earlier pricing. This price reduction had already fuelled speculation among marketers of possible pump prices dropping to around N800 per litre. Dangote’s latest price cut clearly aims to solidify its dominance and keep distributors engaged.

Ukadike Chinedu, National Publicity Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), noted, “Crude oil prices directly influence petrol costs; further drops in crude prices could easily lead to petrol prices below N800 per litre.”

Private depots, under intense pressure from the Dangote Petrol Price Cut, rapidly adjusted prices. AA RANO held at N830 per litre, MENJ at N830, while Bovas lowered to N826, and RAINOIL priced at N831. AITEO dropped from N832 to N827, indicating significant competitive pressure.

An industry insider confirmed the Dangote Petrol Price Cut, stating, “The new Dangote refinery rate is officially N815 per litre ex-depot, N825 including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s N10 levy. Marketers currently sell between N826–N830 per litre.”

Some confusion arose as Dangote Refinery temporarily recalled invoices due to an initial pricing error. Officials from the refinery cautiously confirmed the situation based on marketers’ reports.

The Dangote Petrol Price Cut highlights market deregulation’s dynamic nature, promising lower petrol prices and clear consumer advantages. Industry observers foresee ongoing competitive pricing actions, further benefiting motorists nationwide.
