CFN Election: Masari Returns as President, Vows Progress in Nigerian Cycling

The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) has re-elected Engr. Giadomenico Masari as its president following the conclusion of the federation’s elective congress on Sunday at the Gymnasium of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Masari, who secured the presidency unopposed, received endorsements from 16 of the 17 board members in attendance. His re-election consolidates his leadership and sets the stage for continuity in Nigerian cycling’s evolving journey.

In his acceptance remarks, Masari thanked stakeholders for their confidence and pledged to expand on the federation’s developmental gains.

“I thank you all for the support given me for the successes recorded so far. I promise we shall continue to strive to make sure we do well both nationally and internationally,” Masari said.

He admitted that funding remained a central challenge for Nigerian cycling but assured members that his administration would intensify efforts to build new partnerships with organizations and individuals to attract much-needed financial support.

The congress also took a significant governance step by amending the CFN constitution to provide for additional leadership positions, a move expected to broaden participation and strengthen institutional capacity.

With Masari’s mandate renewed, attention now turns to how the federation can balance local grassroots development with Nigeria’s competitiveness in international cycling. Analysts say the immediate priority will be to leverage fresh sponsorships, improve athlete welfare, and expand training opportunities across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

For Nigerian cycling enthusiasts, the re-election signals both stability and fresh pressure: stability in leadership continuity, but pressure on Masari and his board to translate vision into podium results at continental and world championships.
