Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti admitted to being “devastated” after watching his side lose 3-2 to Barcelona in a dramatic Copa del Rey final on Saturday night in Seville.

Real Madrid fought back from a first-half deficit and looked close to victory before conceding a late equalizer to Ferran Torres and an extra-time winner from Jules Koundé.

“We were close to winning and we conceded a strange goal very late,” Ancelotti said in his post-match press conference. “We fought very hard. If we had won, it wouldn’t have been a scandal. We played the game we had to play.”

Despite the defeat, Ancelotti praised his team’s second-half performance and vowed that Madrid would continue to fight for the LaLiga title, where they trail leaders Barcelona by four points with five matches remaining.

“We have competed tonight and we will compete at Barcelona when we meet again,” he said, referring to the crucial LaLiga clash scheduled for May 11.

Madrid’s season is now hanging by a thread after crashing out of the Champions League and losing the Copa del Rey — and insiders at the club are reportedly questioning whether deeper squad changes might be necessary this summer.

Ancelotti also dismissed ongoing speculation about his future amid reports linking him to the vacant Brazil national team role.

“I can go on, I can stop, but it will be an issue for the next few weeks, not today,” he stated, offering no firm commitment.

Eyewitnesses noted that Ancelotti cut a visibly emotional figure as he left the press room early after just three questions — a rare moment of public vulnerability from the usually composed manager.

Real Madrid’s fate this season — and perhaps Ancelotti’s future — could now be decided when they face Barcelona again on May 11 in a LaLiga title decider that promises even higher stakes.
