Benue Governor Suspends Aide Over Sex-For-Jobs Scandal After EFCC Arrest

By IDNN Investigative Affairs Unit

Makurdi, Benue State — The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has suspended his Special Adviser on Research and Planning, Mkor Aondona, following explosive allegations of sexual exploitation, blackmail, and cyberbullying involving multiple young women.

The suspension comes on the heels of Aondona’s arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which announced on Saturday that it had taken the aide into custody based on “credible petitions” from female students.

According to the EFCC, the victims alleged that Aondona demanded sexual favours in exchange for job placements, recorded the acts without consent, and used the videos to blackmail the women into continued sexual submission.

Alia Reacts Swiftly, Vows Integrity

"They don’t look or sound Nigerian"
Public office is a sacred trust, and anyone who violates it has no place in my government.

Governor Alia, in a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, announced Aondona’s immediate suspension and promised that any official caught in unethical or criminal activity would be dealt with decisively.

“This administration is built on integrity, discipline, and accountability,” the statement read. “Public office is a sacred trust, and anyone who violates it has no place in my government.”

The governor reiterated his zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, emphasizing that transparency remains the guiding principle of his administration.

Fallout, Shock, and EFCC’s Next Steps

The EFCC said it was pursuing additional leads, noting that several other young women may have been affected by similar tactics. Sources within the anti-graft agency disclosed that some victims were lured with scholarship promises and federal job placements before being manipulated and threatened with leaked videos.

This case has sparked outrage in Benue’s academic and youth circles, with rights groups calling for a broader probe into job racketeering rings operating under political cover.
