Bayern Munich Beat Stuttgart 2–1 to Lift Beckenbauer German Super Cup

Bayern Munich began the new season by lifting the Franz Beckenbauer German Super Cup, defeating Stuttgart 2–1 on Saturday in front of a 60,000-strong crowd.
The match, renamed to honour the legendary Franz Beckenbauer who died in 2024, pitted Bundesliga champions Bayern against DFB-Pokal winners Stuttgart.
Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 18th minute, meeting a Michael Olise pass with a low finish across goal — his 86th strike in just 97 Bayern appearances.
Stuttgart pushed forward after the break, but Bayern punished them on the counter. In the 77th minute, Luis Díaz headed home from close range to double the lead, celebrating with a tribute to his late former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically died in a car crash earlier this summer.
The hosts rallied late and were rewarded in stoppage time as Jamie Leweling found the net, but Bayern’s veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer made key saves to preserve the lead.
“This was about setting the tone,” Kane said post-match. “We’ve shown we can defend our titles and add more this season.”
Bayern’s victory handed them their 10th German Super Cup title, reinforcing their domestic dominance and extending the winning partnership between Kane and Olise, who once again combined to devastating effect.
For Stuttgart, the defeat stung, but their resilience and new striker Nick Woltemade’s physical presence offered promise for the Bundesliga campaign ahead.
