Army Captures Notorious IPOB Commander in Imo Crackdown

By: Security Desk

The Nigerian Army has announced the arrest of Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, alias Gentle de Yahoo, described as a notorious commander of IPOB’s armed wing, during a raid in Imo State.

The Imo Operation

Troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade, supported by other agencies, stormed Aku-Ihube in Okigwe Local Government Area. They recovered an English pistol, 145 rounds of ammunition, six mobile phones, military and police uniforms, and a German flag.

The raid also exposed a workshop where stolen vehicles were dismantled and resold. Ten motorcycles were destroyed at the site.

Nationwide Sweep

Linked missions unfolded simultaneously in Adamawa, Katsina, and Kogi States. Soldiers rescued 12 kidnapped victims — five in Madagali, another five in Malumfashi, and two in Lokoja.

Military officials said the rescues underscored improved intelligence coordination across commands.

ISWAP Clash in Borno

In the northeast, Operation Hadin Kai troops engaged Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters who ambushed a convoy near Garin Giwa on the Baga–Cross Kauwa route. Eight militants, including senior operatives, were killed. Others with gunshot wounds were captured.

A military statement confirmed: “During the exchange of fire, eight ISWAP fighters were neutralised, including two Munzirs and one Qaid.”

A Wider Security Message

The operations highlight the army’s dual push against separatist violence in the southeast and jihadist insurgency in the northeast. Analysts say the Imo arrest and Borno ambush are part of a renewed drive to project control and deter armed groups nationwide.

The Defence Headquarters says operations will continue, as troops aim to dismantle armed networks threatening Nigeria’s stability.
