Arike Ogunbowale scores WNBA playoff-record 45 as Dallas forces Game 3

Arike Ogunbowale produced the biggest scoring night in WNBA playoff history when Dallas needed it most.

The Wings guard scored a record 45 points as Dallas defeated the Golden State Valkyries 108-100 in overtime, levelling their first-round playoff series and forcing a decisive Game 3.

Dallas had entered the game facing elimination after losing the series opener 104-80.

Three days later, Ogunbowale transformed the contest.

A record night with the season on the line

Ogunbowaleโ€™s 45-point performance set a new WNBA postseason scoring record, but the timing of her biggest moments made the night even more significant.

Dallas trailed by three late in regulation before Ogunbowale hit a corner three-pointer with 4.1 seconds remaining to tie the game at 93-93 and force overtime.

She then scored 11 points in the extra period as the Wings outscored Golden State 15-7 to complete the comeback.

Ogunbowale also finished with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in a performance that turned a potential elimination night into another chance for Dallas to extend its season.

Golden State had its own major individual performance, with Gabby Williams scoring 36 points, but the Valkyries were unable to close the series.

Dallas flips the series pressure

The contrast between the opening two games is sharp.

Golden State dominated Game 1 and won by 24 points, putting Dallas under immediate pressure.

Game 2 became a far tighter contest, with the fourth quarter turning into a possession-by-possession fight before Ogunbowale forced overtime and took control of the extra period.

The result leaves the series tied 1-1 and sends both teams into a winner-take-all Game 3.

Dallas now returns to Golden State knowing it has already survived one elimination threat.

The Valkyries, meanwhile, have home advantage and another opportunity to finish the job after allowing Game 2 to slip away.

One game now decides everything

The equation is simple.

The winner advances to the semifinals.

The loser is finished.

Dallas has momentum from one of the most dramatic individual performances in recent playoff history, but Golden State has already shown it can overwhelm the Wings when its perimeter shooting and defensive pressure are working.

For Dallas, the challenge is no longer proving it can respond.

It is proving that response can be repeated on the road when there is no next game.

Ogunbowale has already delivered one historic answer.

Game 3 will decide whether that 45-point night becomes the performance that changed Dallasโ€™ postseason or the final great moment before elimination.
