Ajao’s Abuja: New FCT CP Launches Tech-Powered War on Crime, Promises Safer Capital

The new Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, CP Adewale Ajao, is wasting no time setting the tone for a new era of security in Abuja—one where drones, digital intelligence, and community collaboration take center stage.

In his first major address since assuming office, Ajao unveiled an ambitious, tech-driven security strategy aimed at transforming Abuja into a model city for crime prevention and public safety. The plan includes a total overhaul of the intelligence department and the deployment of cutting-edge tools like CCTV networks, drones, and digital crime mapping systems to stay ahead of rising threats.

“We’re not blind to the realities of insecurity—kidnapping, youth restiveness, cybercrime—we’re facing them head-on,” Ajao declared boldly at a Thursday press briefing in Garki.

Command and Control: 24/7 Monitoring Coming

Under Ajao’s watch, a 24-hour Command and Control Centre will soon be operational, ensuring real-time response capabilities and coordinated security action across the city. Surveillance infrastructure will be ramped up significantly, allowing security operatives to monitor hot zones and act swiftly on distress signals.

Smarter Intelligence, Stronger Collaboration

A major pillar of Ajao’s vision is revamping the State Intelligence Department. The goal: create a more agile, action-oriented intelligence unit that focuses on prevention rather than reaction.

“We are re-jigging intelligence operations to preempt crime, not just respond after the fact,” he explained.

This internal reform will be bolstered by stronger inter-agency cooperation. Ajao emphasized working closely with the Nigerian Armed Forces, DSS, and NSCDC to streamline information sharing and enable joint tactical operations.

Community First: Policing with the People

Ajao isn’t just betting on technology—he’s banking on people power. His approach to community policing includes:

  • Engaging traditional rulers and youth leaders

  • Hosting regular town hall meetings

  • Building trust-based partnerships between law enforcement and residents

“A peaceful FCT is our shared responsibility,” Ajao stressed. “Let’s build it together.”

Zero Tolerance for Corruption, Boosting Officer Welfare

Ajao made it clear: misconduct within the ranks will not be tolerated. Professionalism, integrity, and accountability will be non-negotiable in his administration.

But he’s not just demanding more from his officers—he’s also promising more. From improved training to enhanced welfare packages, Ajao is investing in the morale and capacity of the police force.

“We want our officers to be both competent and confident, equipped with the skills and motivation they need to protect this city.”

A Vision for a Safer Capital

CP Ajao’s plan reflects a bold, multi-dimensional shift in approach—from reactive policing to proactive prevention, from isolated operations to integrated intelligence, and from skepticism to trust-building with Abuja’s residents.

As Abuja faces modern security threats, Ajao’s tech-driven strategy could be the game-changer the capital has been waiting for. All eyes are now on implementation—and whether the new CP can turn bold plans into real peace on the streets.
