Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is playing political chess — and it’s about to backfire.

On Tuesday, Adeleke endorsed President Tinubu’s re-election bid. But instead of joining the APC, he stayed put in the PDP. The move split the room — and the party.

“He wants it both ways. It’s betrayal,” fumed ADC Osun Chair Charles Omidiji.

Adeleke’s PDP faction, backed by ex-Governor Oyinlola and Senator Lere Oyewumi, issued a communiqué saying Tinubu is “a son of Osun.” It wasn’t just praise — it was a full embrace.

 Power Shift or Power Play?

The ADC, now home to Rauf Aregbesola, sees this as their golden moment.

“Whether he joins APC or not, he will lose. We’re ready,” Omidiji said.

Analysts say Adeleke’s gamble risks alienating PDP’s national base — while failing to convince APC loyalists. It’s the classic middle-lane strategy — and it rarely works.

2026 might not be Adeleke vs opposition. It could be Adeleke vs everyone.
