ADC Chairman Alleges Bribery, Says He Rejected Billions to Abandon Opposition Coalition

ADC Chairman Alleges Bribery Attempts to Ditch Coalition

By: IDNN Political Desk

ABUJA —In a revelation that jolts Nigeria’s political class, Ralph Nwosu, National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has claimed that shadowy political actors offered him billions of naira and multiple ministerial slots in a desperate bid to dismantle the party’s place in the newly formed opposition coalition.

“They tried to buy our loyalty. They failed,” Nwosu declared during the ADC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

ADC Chairman Bribery Claim Sparks Political Shockwaves

Nwosu didn’t just hint — he spelled it out.

“Some people offered me three ministerial slots. One for myself, and two to distribute as I pleased,” he revealed.

“But I said no. Because I chose a democratic future for Nigeria — not a paycheck.”

The ADC boss stated that the offers came both from within Nigeria and abroad, painting a chilling picture of the stakes surrounding the opposition bloc’s emergence.

Coalition Loyalty or Betrayal?

The timing of the bribery attempt, Nwosu said, was not coincidental, occurring shortly before the ADC’s pivotal alignment with other opposition parties earlier in July.

“They wanted to cut off our legs before we could even stand,” Nwosu noted. “But what they didn’t know is—we walk on principle.”

He praised the entire ADC National Working Committee (NWC) for standing firm, stating that every member unanimously rejected all forms of inducement.

Corruption as Strategy: A Warning to Nigeria’s Democracy

Nwosu’s claims raise deep questions about how power is wielded and contested behind closed doors in Nigeria.

“Some politicians believe politics is just about money. If ₦1 billion doesn’t work, offer ₦5 billion. That’s their playbook,” he said.

“But this time, the playbook was burned.”

A Call to National Institutions

Nwosu concluded by urging INEC, the Judiciary, and the National Assembly to stand guard over Nigeria’s democracy, warning that money politics could wipe out public trust if left unchecked.

“Each time democracy suffers, INEC goes down, the judiciary goes down, and Nigeria loses value,” he warned. “Now is the time to draw the line.”

A briefcase full of cash.
A whisper of power.
But Ralph Nwosu chose the storm — not the silence.
And the opposition coalition just got a spine.
