Adamawa Ebola Tests: Two Suspected Cases Negative — NCDC

Two Suspected Ebola Cases in Adamawa Test Negative, NCDC Says

Two people investigated in Yola tested negative twice. Separately, NCDC continues monitoring contacts linked to the confirmed FCT case.

Two people investigated for suspected Ebola disease in Yola, Adamawa State, tested negative after two rounds of laboratory testing, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has said.

NCDC Director-General Dr Jide Idris disclosed the results in a statement signed October 31 and published on the agency’s website November 1.

He said Adamawa had no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case. At the time of the statement, the previously confirmed infection in the Federal Capital Territory remained Nigeria’s only confirmed case.

What Happened in Adamawa

Adamawa’s Public Health Emergency Operations Centre received the report in the early hours of October 30 after two people developed symptoms that required investigation.

They were isolated, and samples were collected for testing. Both rounds of laboratory tests returned negative results.

NCDC did not disclose the cause of their illnesses or say whether they had been discharged. The agency said it would continue supporting the state’s health authorities.

Contact Monitoring Continues Separately

The Adamawa results are separate from the monitoring of contacts linked to the confirmed FCT case.

NCDC’s October 29 situation report recorded 62 contacts identified for follow-up. None had tested positive at that reporting point.

The figure represents people identified for monitoring, not confirmed infections. It also does not show how many remained under follow-up on November 2.

NCDC’s Adamawa statement did not establish a connection between the two people investigated in Yola and the FCT case.

What November 13 Means

The October 29 report listed expected completion dates for individual contact monitoring between October 31 and November 13.

November 13 is the latest expected completion date in that schedule. It is not a deadline for ending national surveillance or a declaration that the response is over.

The same report said the FCT infection was confirmed on October 20 and the index patient was evacuated to Switzerland on October 26.

NCDC Urges Calm

NCDC urged Nigerians to avoid spreading unverified reports and to rely on official health updates.

It advised anyone with concerning symptoms, particularly after relevant exposure, to seek immediate medical attention and tell healthcare workers about their travel or contact history. The agency also warned against self-medication.

The two suspected Adamawa cases tested negative. Monitoring linked to the separately confirmed FCT case remains part of the agency’s reported response.
