Gezawa Market fire destroys containers, eight shops

Fire destroys four containers, eight shops at Gezawa Market, fire service says

A fire destroyed four containers and eight shops at Gezawa Market in Kano State on November 2, according to the Kano State Fire Service.

The agency’s spokesperson, Kabiru Jafaru, disclosed the damage in a statement reported by Punch and The Guardian on November 4. The breakdown comprised four containers, seven temporary shops and one additional shop.

Jafaru said the service received a distress call at about 5:15 am on November 2 reporting the outbreak at the market in Gezawa Local Government Area.

According to the statement, firefighters were deployed to the scene and extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the market.

The available fire service account did not specify the cause or provide a monetary assessment of the damage. It also did not state whether there were any casualties.

The agency urged residents and traders to observe fire safety precautions as the harmattan season begins.
