Oyo Doctors’ Strike: Union’s October 26 Escalation Warning

Oyo doctors’ strike: October 26 account sets out conditional November 2 escalation

Oyo State medical officers began a one-week warning strike on October 26, when their union said it would move to indefinite action from November 2 if its demands remained unresolved, according to a News Agency of Nigeria report published that day.

Dr Solomon Olaoye, chairman of the Association of Medical and Dental Officers of Oyo State, told NAN that members had been directed to attend to emergency patients and refer those requiring further care to appropriate facilities.

Allowances and recruitment among demands

Olaoye identified demands concerning professional and accoutrement allowances, salary progression, responsibility allowances, restoration of salaries affected by transfers and recruitment to address staffing shortages.

He acknowledged engagements with government officials but said the issues remained unresolved at the time of the October 26 interview. The proposed November 2 escalation was conditional on those demands remaining unmet.

October 26 account does not establish present status

NAN reported disruption during hospital visits on October 26. Those observations and the union’s emergency-care directive do not establish current service availability. No subsequent union decision or government settlement was verified during the latest checks; the present strike status remains unconfirmed.
