Two vigilantes reported killed, three injured in Plateau’s Bokkos

Two vigilantes reported killed, three injured in Bokkos attack

Two local vigilantes were reported killed and three others injured after gunmen attacked a night-watch post at Angwan Tsarki in Mangor, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Premium Times and Vanguard, citing resident testimony, reported that the attack occurred late on Sunday, October 4.

A separate security-source account also reported that troops responding to the incident later found two bodies and three wounded people.

Plateau Police have not publicly confirmed this specific Mangor attack.

Residents report late-night attack

Resident accounts say the vigilantes were on duty when gunmen opened fire on them.

Premium Times and Vanguard place the attack at about 11pm.

Other reports give different times, while one security-source account refers to troops responding shortly after midnight.

IDNN is therefore describing the incident as a late-night attack rather than presenting one exact time as settled fact.

Casualty count remains source-dependent

The available reports consistently describe two vigilantes as killed and three as injured.

However, that casualty count has not been publicly confirmed by Plateau Police or another named security authority.

IDNN is therefore retaining the formulation “reported killed” and “reported injured.”

A security-source report said responding troops found two bodies and three wounded victims, but the source was not a named official.

Police have not publicly confirmed the Mangor incident

Plateau Police have issued statements on other recent security incidents in the state, including a separate attack on traders along Bukuru Expressway.

In the material reviewed by IDNN, the command had not issued a public statement confirming the Angwan Tsarki attack.

That distinction is important because this story’s casualty figures currently rest on resident and security-source reporting rather than formal police confirmation.

Attacker identity remains unknown

Some reports have attributed the attack to a communal group.

IDNN is not using that attribution.

No named police, military or state-government source reviewed by IDNN has established the attackers’ ethnic, communal or organisational identity.

The attackers are therefore described only as gunmen.

Security response under scrutiny

The attack raises questions about protection for community vigilantes and residents in parts of Bokkos where local watch groups operate in exposed areas.

A security-source report said troops began a search for the attackers after the incident.

That claim remains attributed to security sources.

The next accountability questions are whether Plateau Police or military authorities will formally confirm the attack, whether the casualty count will be officially verified, who carried out the shooting, what security presence existed around Angwan Tsarki and whether any arrests have been made.

For now, what is established from multiple reports is that two vigilantes were reported killed and three others injured in a late-night attack at Angwan Tsarki, Mangor, Bokkos LGA.

What remains unresolved is formal police confirmation, the exact timing of the attack, the identity and motive of the attackers and whether any suspects have been arrested.
