Anambra police rescue 16-year-old after alleged Enugu abduction

Police in Anambra State say a 16-year-old boy has been rescued in Onitsha after he was allegedly abducted in Enugu State.

The Anambra State Police Command said the teenager was found near a security checkpoint at Ekene Junction, Oguta Road, Onitsha, on September 13 after unidentified persons reportedly left him in the area.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said a joint patrol team took the minor into safety.

The boy’s identity is being withheld by IDNN because he is a minor.

Police trace incident to Enugu

According to the police account, the teenager was allegedly abducted in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State before being taken across state lines.

The circumstances of the alleged abduction, including who was responsible and why the boy was targeted, have not been independently established.

Police have not announced any arrest in connection with the case.

Search for those responsible continues

The Anambra Police Command said surveillance and intelligence-led efforts were continuing to identify and arrest those responsible.

No suspect, criminal group or motive has been publicly established in the strongest verified accounts reviewed by IDNN.

The rescue therefore remains the clearest confirmed development.

Cross-state questions remain

The case raises questions about how the teenager was moved from Enugu to Anambra and whether authorities in both states are coordinating investigations.

Police have not publicly disclosed whether investigators have identified the route used, recovered a vehicle, established how long the minor was held or determined whether other people were involved.

Those details remain unresolved.

Family reunification remains unconfirmed

Police were still appealing for information that could help locate the teenager’s family in the latest account reviewed by IDNN.

That means any claim that he has already been reunited with responsible guardians would be premature.

Child protection remains central

Because the person rescued is a minor, further reporting requires additional safeguards.

IDNN will not publish the boy’s name, identifiable image, family address or other personal details that could expose him to further harm.

Any future update should focus on verified investigative developments, arrests if formally announced, and confirmation of safe family reunification.

For now, the established position is that Anambra Police say a 16-year-old allegedly abducted in Enugu was rescued in Onitsha, while efforts to identify those responsible and locate his family continue.
